09/01/2009
Copley Hospital has received a donation of $20,000 from Stowe Charities, Inc., the volunteer organization that annually presents the Stowe Wine & Food Classic. Members of the Stowe Charities, Inc. Board of Directors, Peter G. Anderson, Jack Sykas, and Greg Paus, along with SW&FC Committee members Tony Campus and Bruce Cooke presented the check to Copley Hospital President Mel Patashnick last week. Sam von Trapp, on behalf of the Stowe Wine & Food Classic’s Presenting Resort, the Trapp Family Lodge, also joined the presentation. According to organizers, this year’s Stowe Wine & Food Classic, in the face of tough economic times, exceeded expectations, both in attendance and net revenue. “It is with tremendous gratitude to all of the events attendees and volunteers, that we present Copley Hospital with a $20,000 gift,” said Anderson said. “Stowe Charities, Inc. is extremely proud to have raised such a significant amount of money for Copley’s Charitable Care Program - a cause that not only demonstrates support for our community hospital, but also ensures everyone has access to healthcare.” Copley President Mel Patashnick says, “We are grateful to Stowe Charities Inc. and their many volunteers for their generous donation to Copley’s Charitable Care program. We’re also thankful for their donation of time and expertise to provide a fun event that has become a signature event for the community.” He noted that Stowe Charities, Inc. has gifted Copley Hospital more than $60,000 via proceeds from the annual culinary event. Both Anderson and Patashnick extended gratitude to the many individuals and businesses that had a hand in the success of this event. “The event wouldn’t be a success without the help of the Trapp Family Lodge, the vintners, distributors and restaurants who’ve so generously donated their time and expertise, along with their fabulous wine and food,” commented Anderson. “They are actively participating in supporting the health of our community, alongside us every step of the way.” According to Anderson, this year’s event broke attendance records, with more than 500 people attending over the three-day event. This year’s premier sponsors included Trapp Family Lodge, Audi, Weddings, Tents & Events, MS Walker, WCAX, New England Cooks and Allen’s Kitchen & Bath. Additional media support was provided by the Stowe Reporter, News & Citizen, Vermont Public Radio, Seven Nights and The Point. Next year’s Stowe Wine and Food Classic is set for June 18 – 20, 2010. Details of the 2010 event, as they are confirmed, can be found on Stowe Charities, Inc.’s website at www.stowewine.com. Currently, Copley Hospital’s annual fundraising campaign has raised 96% of its goal of $245,000. Copley Development Director Leah Hollenberger noted that in addition to supporting charitable care, donors have also helped purchase specific equipment such as a patient lifting device, a Hematology microscope and an intubation scope. “We are fortunate to live in a community where so many understand the importance of our local hospital and support it through gifts that in turn help us provide the very best care for all,” says Hollenberger. She also notes that Copley Hospital Foundation volunteers are still working on raising the campaign shortfall of $10,000 by September 30 to successfully end this year’s Annual Fund campaign.
